How can you tell if someone is interested in you?

What is attentiveness?

The people at Character First say Attentiveness is:

“Showing the worth of a person by giving my undivided concentration to that person.”

In other words the amount of attention a person gives you shows how much they value you; how much interest they have in you.

I remember Trudy. She was girl who worked in the cafeteria of the college that I was doing a summer program at. We somehow started talking to each other. When I spoke with her I felt I was the only person in her universe. He large round eyes would lock onto my face. She would drink in every word I would say and without missing a beat would respond with appropriate questions, responses and sometimes even slight disagreements. The disagreements were a small price to pay to just feel the she has lock out the world just to be in conversation with me. She made me feel special.

Someone who loves you, someone who is interested in you would be attentive to you. Here are some cues and questions that will help you determine how someone feels about you:

1.       Does he like and want to be around you? In fact if they are really interested in you they usually want to be in your private space – as near as physically possible or as near as you will allow.

2.       Does he look at you when you are talking? Or are his eyes roaming the environment when he is with you? When people are not interested in you they tend to looking every where else except at you

3.       Does he ask you questions when he doesn’t understand what you are saying? People who are interested in you tend to be curious about you and what you are saying.

4.       Does he actually listen to you? That is, he not only hears but he internalizes what you are saying and comments intelligently about it. Not sits there with a dead-pan blank look or awkward grin.

5.       Does he only want to ramble about his interest without giving you the time to get something edge wise?

6.       Is he easily distracted with other things when he is with you (mobile phone, gadget other people or just plain absent minded)?

7.       Does he lean into you when you are having a conversation?

8.       Does he lean away from you when he is talking to you?

9.       If you are standing together is his body angled towards or away from you? Are his feet/toes/shoes pointed in your direction?

10.   If he is doing something when you call or get to him doe he stop and give you his undivided attention or does he multitask or expects you to wait until he is finished? There are some things that do need finishing however he will apologized and explain that he just needs to finish this one thing and he will be with you ASAP.

I believe that words are to the relationship what tools are to the trade man. Without tools the work will be crude and botched. With proper tools the work will be efficient, effortless and effective.

I need to tell you also the tools cannot work by themselves. They need someone with skill to use them properly. Imagine trying to using an electric saw if you don’t fully know how to manipulate properly. That can be deadly.

For relationship to work properly you not only need tools (words) but also skill to make them effective. Words in themselves mean nothing. Loving more than one person at a time has been the subject of deep and grave debate. My wife, and many other women, tends to believe that there must be something about one person that tips the balance of love. But can you really love several people simultaneously?

Jack believes you can. In fact Jack he is indeed deeply in love with 2 women. He is also in a dilemma. He, rightly or wrongly, confessed to his long time girl friend that he is powerfully in love with her and another girl on his job. She threw a fit and gave an ultimatum. One friend of mine keeps me inform of a developing drama in his life. An ex-girl of over 20 years contacted him on MySpace social networking site. They both began casually catching up with each other. She is now married to wealthy man and has several children. Life couldn’t be better for her. However she seems quite interested in exploring the chemistry they once had.

“Why would you risk all you have with someone who has nothing to offer you?” was his honest question to her.

She understood all the risks involved and contend she still love him and also love her husband. She was surprised that this dilemma can exist.

Let me explain that humans are not like apples or mangoes that you can taste to see which is sweeter. Equality in relationships, does it work?

Should men and women be equal in relationships? Should they do everything equally and divide roles and responsibilities equally?

With the great push in the workplace to have equal pay may people also think that women in relationships should be equal treatment in everything.

In this blog I will like to go beyond equality. The psychology of a relationship is not about equality or even gender roles. People get into relationship with others who complement them.

Think about it you don’t necessarily want someone with equal skills, talents and strengths as you. People are usually drawn to others who complement their weaknesses and lack.

Whoever is good at something should do it. I have a girl friend who has a certificate in auto mechanics, her husband doesn’t have a clue. Who do you think should maintain the family car? Similarly if the man is better at cooking let him cook most of the times, if it feasible to do so. And there should be no score card or balance sheet kept.

Why do men lie and why do women belief them?

Some men have been know as notorious liers. Other tell “what lies” to get what they want. Many women have suffered dearly because they fell prey to these kinds of men.

Take Kirsty, a 34 year old lawyer, she was totally taken in by Ken who claimed he loved her dearly and would do anything for her – even marry her. After 3 years with Ken she is no closer to marriage then when they first started and she has found out Ken has several other girl friends and even 2 children. Christine is a funny and engaging character. She is also very talented too. After commenting on how wonderful and sweet she was she asked me a question which who makes cialis momentarily left me speechless:
